Adult group classes

Book Chat - Fall Session - Petit Pays, Gaël Faye
$350.00

Do you want to read French literature but don’t know where to start? Join our discussion-based class on contemporary Francophone literature.

Each session explores a single novel: the story, the author's influences, and the cultural or historical context that shaped the book. The reading pace is kept easy to help students stay consistent and discuss each chapter in depth. It’s a guided conversation between fellow book enthusiasts where students can dig into stories and character development. Before each session, students receive a reading package to support their reading, which includes a reading calendar and note-taking prompts.

Our fall book, "Petit Pays", is a once-in-a-generation debut novel. It tells the story of a childhood marked by war, as seen through the eyes of a young boy caught between the worlds of a French dad and an African mom. Gaël Faye draws on his own past to write a story that's poetic and gripping.

  • French level required: intermediate to advanced French speakers (discussion is led in French only).

  • Every Wednesday at 5:30 pm PST

  • 10-week session (September 2 to November 10)
